Add On
|
A card that is deliberatley discarded to another player to add to an existing meld. |

Blitz
|
When your opponent does not score. |
Block
|
Holding a card that will prevent your opponent from forming a meld. |
Buy In
|
Funds required to play in a tournament or allocated to a specific table. |
Catch
|
To recieve a certain hand and/or card.. |
Discard Pile
|
Placed face up and is a result of the players discard. |
Discard
|
To rid an unwanted card from your hand and place it in the discard pile. |
Draw
|
Picking up a card from the stock pile or the discard pile. |
Deal
|
Each player is dealt 10 cards after the shuffle. |
Deadwood
|
No matching sets or melds. |
Face Card
|
Any J-Q-K also known as picture card. |
Gin
|
A hand that consists of zero points of deadwood and recieves a bonus of 25 points. |
Game
|
Is played to 100 points or any agreed upon number. |
Hand
|
The cards a player holds at any time during the game. |
Kalooki
|
A rummy game that uses jokers. |
Knocking Melds
|
Having less than 10 points of deadwood, to end a hand by laying down all cards, grouped into melds. |
Layoff
|
Adding matched cards to your opponents melds. |
Melds
|
Matched sets ex: 2-2-2 8-8-8- or a run 7-8-9-of hearts. |
Match
|
Any agreed upon number although usually played to 500 points. |
Opponent
|
Person in which you are playing against. |
Point Value
|
Ace= 1 point and always played as a low card.
Number cards are face value ex. 2 = 2points 5= 5 points.
Picture/face cards are 10 points. |
Penalty Points
|
When the hand is over the remaining cards in a players hands are penalty points. |
Run
|
A meld of the same suit ex; 2-3-4- of hearts. |
Stock
|
Remainder of a deck after each player recieved their cards, placed face down with one turned face up re: the start of the discard pile. |
Safe Card
|
A card in which your opponent is unlikely to use. |
Score
|
Total amount of points made by a player. |
Undercut
|
When an opponent made more melds and recieved fewer points of deadwood than the knocker. |
